Major Cancer Organizations and Institutions:

American Cancer Society  The American Cancer Society is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem.  Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, the ACS has 12 chartered Divisions,, more than 900 local offices nationwide, and a presence in more than 5,100 communities.  Saving lives by helping people stay well, get well, find cures, & fight back.

National Cancer Institute The National Cancer Institute's Cancer Information Service provides the latest and most accurate cancer information to patients, their families, the public, and health professionals.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society  The mission of LLS is: cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.  It is the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer.  LLS funds lifesaving blood research around the world and provides free information and support services.

Livestrong  The organization started by cyclist Lance Armstrong, and famous for the familiar yellow wristbands.

Clinical Trials:
Clinical trials are research studies that involve people.  They are the final step in a long process that begins with research in a lab and animal testing.  The National Cancer Institute, drug companes, medical institutions and other organizations sponsor clinical trials.  These trials take place in many settings, such as cancer centers, large medical centers, small hospitals and doctor's offices.
